The Instant Box Camera is an "instant" camera with a built-in darkroom that produces black and white photographs on the spot for one-on-one or (small group) portraits.
The Instant Box Camera is a mobile box camera that houses a darkroom that produces one of a kind black and white photographs. Experience sitting for a portrait, 19th-century style, and receive a portrait to take home. There is no negative, so the image made in the Instant Box Camera is the only one that exists, making it a unique piece of art.
Sitting for a photographic portrait with the Instant Box Camera slows down the experience of being photographed and creates time to honor a person, to try to capture their essence and personality, and it’s my hope that people seeing others being photographed by a large box camera will draw others over out of interest, and spark conversation.
The Instant Box Camera is always staffed by the photographer, Lacey Prpic Hedtke.
Standard Event Includes:
The Instant Box Camera will come to your location and set up a mobile photo studio with backdrop and chair, and make photographic portraits. Photographic paper and chemicals are included in this rate. True to the era, each photograph takes about five minutes from start to finish, and is enclosed in a small envelope or paper frame.
Each photograph takes 5 minutes from start to finish, so the camera is able to produce 12 photographs in an hour.
Additional and customizable options:
Additional hours are billed at $100 per hour to account for extra photo materials and staff time.
In between shots we can open up the camera and explore the process of making a photograph.
-Events are customizable! Different backdrops (plain white is the standard) are available based on your organization. $200 per custom backdrop.
-The camera needs power if it’s indoors to power the lights. If it’s outdoors in the sunlight, it can operate without power.
-Since photographing is so tied to one’s identity, I can collect data about how your community identifies or what it wants to look like, values-wise. $25 for printed cards.
Corporate / Large Event Rate:
$1000 for 3 hours
The Instant Box Camera will come to your location with materials (photographic paper and darkroom chemicals) and take photographs.
If your organization would like to have a customized backdrop, add on $400.
