The Wonder Drum is a mobile hub for rhythm: a drum on wheels with hand percussion instruments inside. When the lid is on, it's just one drum, but when it comes off, then many people can play together.
The Wonder Drum is a mobile hub for rhythm: a drum on wheels with hand percussion instruments inside. When the lid’s on, it’s just one drum, but when it comes off, then many people can play together. People love to play drums and other hand percussion instruments. But too many of us don’t get the opportunity to do so often enough. The Wonder Drum invites people to connect with each other through rhythm, music and play. It’s staffed by Dylan Fresco, a musician skilled in facilitating collaborative creative experiences with diverse groups of people. Individuals will likely hear the Wonder Drum before they see it. Then they’ll notice its bold colors and big wheels, its bright ribbons and many instruments. People can choose from a wide range of instruments to play: drums, tambourines, shakers, etc. Each one is connected to the Wonder Drum via multi-colored ribbons. As soon as people start to play, they too will be connected to the Wonder Drum and other participants through rhythm. The artist can lead participants in guided musical jams. The Wonder Drum also functions as a drum circle free-for-all/ instrument “petting zoo”. Customized options for facilitation are available.

Delivery (by bike or car depending on location), set up and take down, artist staffing, and more than a dozen hand percussion instruments ready to be played.

Mileage charge might apply, plus possible fee for travel time depending on location/commute.
Greater Minnesota and beyond: Mileage charge will apply, plus fee for travel time. Fee generally starts at $100 – check with artist for rate. Depending on distance from Minneapolis, lodging/meal charges may apply.

Transport Size–this is generally the smallest size, use this to determine fit through doors, etc. (LxWxH): 35″ x 31.5″ x 37″ (When separate from trailer, Drum measures 24” x 25” x 23”. See below for details)
Transport Details:
The Wonder Drum is delivered by bike or car, depending on location. It rolls through most standard doors on its trailer. In general, The Wonder Drum doesn’t go up or down stairs. Tight turns/small elevators may necessitate removal from trailer, in which case some brief assistance might be necessary. (2-5 steps of stairs might also be possible with assistance). Check with artist if this applies.
Footprint–how much space is ideal for basic set-up (LxWxH): 12′ x 10′ x 8′ (Can work in smaller spaces. Check with artist)
Additional Specification Details:
Location/Set-Up: The Wonder Drum is suitable both outside and indoors. Inside, it works in both small and larger spaces, but certain echo-ey spaces (gymnasiums, for example), while workable, are not ideal.
Sound/Noise: The Wonder Drum + People = Noise! There will be a lot of drumming and percussion sounds, so it’s best not to share a small space inside with people who need to concentrate on something quietly. Check with artist for more details. The Wonder Drum will be most successful when it’s not in competition with other music. For outside events, this means locating the Wonder Drum further away from live bands or loud recorded music. For indoor events, an area without (loud) recorded music playing is best.
Accessibility Considerations: The Wonder Drum has been designed to be accessible for many people and communities. The staffing artist has years of experience facilitating music with children and adults with a wide range of disabilities, and he can make most activities accessible. However, there are certain individuals and groups of people for whom loud or sharp sounds can be extremely uncomfortable or painful. Please feel free to contact the artist with any concerns and he can work to adapt the Wonder Drum to your community.
